Understand LVDS and eDP industrial LCD interfaces, compatibility risks, controller requirements and selection considerations.

LVDS in Industrial Displays

LVDS remains common in industrial LCD modules because it is established, widely supported and available across many sizes and resolutions. Integration requires checking lane count, bit mapping, voltage, connector, pin assignment and timing.

eDP in Modern LCD Modules

eDP is common in newer high-resolution and slim displays. It carries packetized video and auxiliary communication, but versions, lane count, link rate, connector and power sequencing must match the host system and panel.

Why the Interfaces Are Not Directly Interchangeable

An LVDS panel cannot normally be connected directly to an eDP host, or the reverse. A conversion controller may be required. Mechanical fit alone does not establish compatibility, and incorrect voltage or pin mapping can damage the panel.

Controller Board and Cable Selection

Select the controller using the exact LCD model and required video inputs. Confirm firmware, native resolution, power supply, backlight control and cable pinout. Prototype testing should cover start-up, image stability, sleep and temperature behavior.
